  Family Background and Childhood

Both parents of Narate Kathong are farmers. He is the youngest in the family among his 9 siblings. He grew up in poverty which he had gone through lots of hardship since young.
When he was a small child, he was rather less vocal and rarely liked to meet with outsiders. But after he grew up and moved to Chiangmai to study, he became more talkative and tried to adapt himself into new environment such that he could socialize with his friends. At the present, he is sometimes talkative and sometimes quiet, depending on his mood on each day.
Narate does not like to be stagnant to the routine and always like to explore into new ideas of doing things. He often loves to improve his works by venturing into something more innovative. He is creative and has a very unique personality. He does not like doing things that are similar to others' and always like to think beyond the box to create marvelous works. However sometimes, he prefers to sit quietly by himself and daydreams, letting his mind roam freely in his imagination.

Early Day in Learning Art

Other than formal education in the arts ever since Vocational Institute, Narate also had learned from a teacher outside academy. Since then, he exposed himself to doing various art such as painting, sculpture and printmaking .
Eventually, he found his great love in performing contemporary arts and his strength in using acrylic painting as the media for his artwork. He has also learnt a lot more from many of his seniors in the institute as well as those who work in the same profession as him. They helped him in developing many ideas and techniques in using many different colors so that the overall products end up even closer to perfection.

Route to becoming a Professional Artist

Upon leaving his school and in 2003, Narate started a studio in Chatuchak Market in Bangkok, Thailand with his wife where it is a weekend market that sells many home decoration items. In his studio, he did almost everything related to arts such as watercolor painting, Chalk painting, acrylic painting, oil painting, portrait and landscape according to the customers' requests.
These had provided him with first working experiences and interaction with customers. However, he reached his saturation point at the end as he was not really contented with himself to engage in doing artwork which satisfies his customers' need. Furthermore, he found no originality in the artworks he did for customer as the art was merely done according to customer requirements. In 2007, he began looking for something that was truly representing his style and something that he really wanted to do and enjoyed doing it.
In beginning 2008, he had coincidentally discovered a technique of splashing acrylic paints onto the canvas. One day, as he was getting bored of using only paint brush to draw, he tried shaking and spraying the paint with using the brush just for fun. Initially, it did not look good but he kept trying on improving the control on dots formation and developing his very own splashing technique using the paint brush. This forms the foundation of Narate Kathong's Pointillism art. Inspired by his childhood memories while living in a jungle, he started the first collection of Pointillism art that breathed life into the lush greeneries, natural and deep forest.

In 2009, he begins to use his fingers to splash the acrylic paints onto the canvas. Splashing with paint brush has a limitation on those parts of the artwork where he needs finer control. Since then, his Pointillism works are more refined with much greater details especially in the area of shadowing. With combining both paint brush and fingers in performing the splashing, he could better control the resolution of the artwork and handle the perspective much deeper. He spent almost one year to perfect this technique. Since then, his artworks have gained tremendous attention from many art lovers and collectors worldwide. In 2010, he started his first overseas exhibition in Singapore. In the same year, he created the first biggest ever Masterpiece titled "The Golden Way" with canvas size measuring 600 cm width and 300 cm height. In the following year, his artworks were exhibited in many international art exhibitions in countries such as Hong Kong, Australia, Taiwan, Korea, Malaysia and China.
Narates' artworks always evoke a sense of peace and tranquility. The cheerful and vibrant colors of his paintings capture viewer's attention and allow one to immerse into the majestic composition, as though being transported to a surreal, yet nostalgic ground.

Motivation behind the Artwork
There are many things that motivate Narate's artwork, including people and physical objects around him. The most inspiring one is Nature. Sadly, nowadays the beautiful natural scenery is getting lesser and lesser.
Today, the arising problem of global warming is getting more and more severe. He thinks that deforestation is the major cause that catalyzes the global warming problem. He wants to create a painting that reflects the nature's beauty that lies within trees, leaves, forests and flowers. Those things would raise people's awareness in conservation of forests, so that every living being can continue living on gracefully in this world forever and ever.

"I hope that everyone is more aware and turn towards preserving and taking care of nature, so that there will still be beautiful nature remained for the next generation. When there is nature there is mankind and when there is mankind there is nature, human and nature, we indeed depend on each other mutually."
